Huracán STO on track

While superb on the road, the Huracán very much is a car that comes alive on the track. Local media recently had the chance to experience that for themselves at a Lamborghini Auckland press day at Hampton Downs Motorsport Park.

Media unanimously consider this to be the most nimble Lamborghini to date. A reset of what’s possible on four wheels.

Lamborghini’s Huracán STO represents a reset. A recalibration, a new benchmark. In the last issue of 66 Magazine, we declared the hardcore GT3 homologation Huracán STO to possibly be the best thing Sant’Agata has ever built. And that was before media and Lamborghini customers were given the privilege of sampling it on-track at Hampton Downs Motorsport Park.

Time on track revealed the Huracán STO’s overall precision to be world class, with steering that is immediate and direct allowing the car to be placed exactly, helped by extreme bodywork unincumbered by regular road car panel design (75% of the STO’s surfaces are carbon fibre).

Consensus among those lucky enough to attend the media and customer event was that this is easily the lithest Lamborghini you could ask for. Capable of generating a massive 400kg of downforce, the grip around corners is equally outrageous and snatching gears at lightspeed, the 470kW V10 powers out of apexes screaming all the way to its 8500rpm redline with the noise of a race car.

As well as an opportunity to pilot the impressive Huracán STO around the circuit, attendees also had the chance to enjoy a couple of memorable hot laps with four-time Bathurst Champion, Greg Murphy, at the wheel. As only Murph could truly demonstrate, the STO becomes innately more communicative the more that is demanded of it.

On a circuit such as Hampton Downs, the Huracán STO made good on what its dramatic looks, aerodynamic artistry, and on-paper performance figures promise.
