After graduating with a BA major in fashion from Massey University, Salasai founder Kirsha Whitcher was snapped up by streetwear brand Mooks Clothing, allowing her to cut her teeth at the helm of their
womenswear range in the early 2000s. Upon launching the Salasai brand in 2007, styling references which stayed true to New Zealand culture, 90s hip hop and multiculturalism were represented in Whitcher’s output, alongside dark colours and unisex drape.
