It has been confirmed that the Polestar 3 will make its international debut next year, followed by the Polestar 4 coupe-SUV in 2023 and the Polestar 5 sedan in 2024.

The first of the trio will be the Polestar 3 SUV, which will look to rival the Audi e-tron. Then, in 2023 the Polestar 4 will arrive. Ingenlath commented that this new EV will be a “sporty coupe-SUV” positioned below the Polestar 3. It’ll rival the soon-to-be-detailed Porsche Macan EV.

Equally intriguing, however, is news of the Polestar 5, which will enter production in 2024. Described by the electric vehicle manufacturer’s CEO as a sedan, the Polestar 5 is expected to rival the likes of the Audi e-tron GT and Porsche Taycan, with the production car expected to show echoes of the stunning Polestar Precept saloon concept which was showcased last year.

“We will see one car per year for the next three years, something not seen from other EV start-ups. These cars are designed and ready to go,” said Ingenlath at an investor call during September.

It is expected the Polestar 4 coupe-SUV will be based on the same SPA2 underpinnings as the Polestar 3, as the platform has been designed to cater for both sister company Volvo and Polestar’s mid-size and flagship vehicles.

Like the Polestar 3, the newly announced Polestar 4 will likely receive a dual-motor powertrain and a battery large enough to support a maximum range in excess of 480km.

During the investor call, it was also revealed Polestar intends to implement an aggressive strategy to increase global sales from around 10,000 cars per year globally at present, to 290,000 per year by 2025.

The local order book is currently open for the electric Polestar 2 performance fastback, due in New Zealand before the end of 2021.
