Always meet your heroes

Held at the Giltrap Group’s stunning headquarters in Grey Lynn, Auckland, the 2021 Starship Foundation Supercar Show brought together a vast array of incredible automotive icons.

For car fans and the curious alike it was a spectacle without comparison, offering once-in-a-lifetime opportunities to see the most amazing cars ever built around every corner.

As guests arrived at the Starship Foundation Supercar Show in early April, they were immediately confronted with bookends marking both the genesis and zenith of the supercar to this point in time. The legendary 1966 Lamborghini Miura – the very first of its type – standing just metres away from the other end of the supercar timeline: the thrilling 2021 McLaren Speedtail, blending automotive art and sheer power, distilling everything the last 50 years has taught performance manufacturers.

Between these points, a never-seen-in-New Zealand-before array of motoring marvels was spread across four floors. Every show ‘zone’ revealed something special, from the McLaren Senna, Aston Martin DBS Zagato, and the always dramatic Lamborghini Countach, to the stuff of bedroom poster fantasy: Jaguar XJ220, Ferrari F40, Bugatti Veyron, and the one-of-one Koenigsegg Agera Hundra to name just a handful of the millions of dollars’ worth of impressive vehicles on display.

Also, for the first time in New Zealand, the Starship Foundation Supercar Show saw the Hypercar ‘Holy Trinity’ – the McLaren P1, Porsche 918 Spyder and LaFerrari – assembled in one place at one time.

Held across just one very special day, proceeds from the Starship Foundation Supercar Show went to the Starship Foundation.

“We are proud of our ongoing partnership with the Starship Foundation,” said Giltrap Group Joint Managing Director, Michael Giltrap. “It is humbling to contemplate the tireless work the Starship Foundation does to better the lives of young New Zealanders from all parts of our country. We thank Starship Foundation Supercar Show attendees for showing their support.”

Aisha Daji Punga, Chief Executive of the Starship Foundation, said the Starship Foundation Supercar Show was an amazing event, with proceeds donated enabling the opportunity to bring better health and brighter futures to the children of New Zealand.

“We are fortunate to have partnered with the Giltrap Group for nearly 20 years. The Starship Foundation Supercar Show was such a success, and we are thrilled the Giltrap Group remain dedicated to assisting Starship and helping raise vital funds for the Starship Foundation.”
